South Wales Success for Seb
22/05/2006
Following the disappointment of two non-finishes, co-driver Seb Marshall and driver David Bogie were determined to get to the end of the 5th round of the BTRDA championship, the Red Dragon Rally, which utilises stages seen on the World Championship round, the Wales Rally GB.
The day started steadily through a very slippy Stage 1 as they were running second car on the road. Onto the longest stage of the rally in Margam at 10.48 miles where a puncture hampered the young pairing, as well as Seb having to hold the gear lever in place in 4th gear on the straights as it was jumping out of place!
Through stage 3 they set equal fastest time as championship leader Neil Weaver and Nick Thornton retired with mechanical failure. This left the team in 2nd place of the 1400cc runners and the first car on the road. This proved challenging on the final two tests through Margam, made even slippier after a fresh soaking of rain!
The crew managed to hold station though and record their best result of the season, with 2nd overall behind Carwyn Harries/Gareth Roberts in their works supported Suzuki Ignis.
"The result is really fantastic and much needed after our two DNF's. The stages were fast and flowing, which suits David's driving style, and we feel a lot was learnt with the changeable conditions." commented Seb, "It was a shame to see Neil and Nick retire but I'm sure they'll return strong!"
With some solid points scored the team now look to build upon their success on the Dukeries Rally on 17th June. Before then though Seb will once again travel to Edinburgh for the second training day of the British Rally Academy.
