Disappointing End To Rally Scotland
24/11/2009
Co-Driver Seb Marshall was left to ponder what might have been after he and fellow MSA British Rally Elite driver Adam Gould were forced to retire from the recent RAC MSA Rally of Scotland.
Gould and Marshall had been selected to drive for the prestigous BF Goodrich Drivers' Team in the Kronos Racing prepared Peugeot 207 S2000, lining up alongside team mates and 2009 Intercontinental Rally Champions Kris Meeke & Paul Nagle.
After a promising start on the opening two tests, the young crew held third place overnight going into the forest stages in Perthshire. Difficult muddy conditions following torrential rain greeted the competitors, and Adam and Seb adopted a cautious approach to get through the stages and learn the vastly different new car.
Unfortunately after exiting the first service halt at Blair Castle, a warning light came on indicating an engine temperature issue. On closer inspection it was discovered that the water pump had failed, causing the engine to overheat. Their rally was over after little more than 20km.
Reflecting on the experience Marshall said: "It's a bitter pill to swallow to retire with mechanical issues so early on, particularly as we were only just getting to grips with this amazing car."
"In spite of that, I've found it a very beneficial experience to compete at this level and with such a professional team. I must thank BF Goodrich and Kronos for this opportunity."
