Podium Place For Seb In Scotland
25/05/2009
Co-Driver Seb Marshall scored his maiden podium finish in the British Rally Championship's third round, the Jim Clark International Rally.
Fresh from completing a university exam in Newcastle between the pre-event reconnaisance and the ceremonial start in Edinburgh, Marshall set about guiding driver Adam Gould through the demanding tests of the Scottish Borders.
With day one starting as the sun set, the MSA British Rally Elite pairing were adapting to a new challenge of driving their 4WD Pirelli backed Subaru Impreza on tarmac for the very first time. Despite a small spin on the opening stage, a respectable position was held as the rally continued into the darkness of Friday night, with Gould and Marshall slashing the time taken compared to their first run over the stages, leaving the crew in 3rd place at the overnight halt.
After just 4 hours sleep the action resumed once again with the young duo intent on learning the car further on the fast and bumpy lanes around Kelso. As the day progressed an intense battle raged between Adam & Seb and local driver Euan Thorburn, and fellow Elite competitor Alistair Fisher.
With just a handful of miles remaining the dry weather relented as rain showers dramatically altered the grip levels on the stages. In spite of the challenging conditions Seb succesfully navigated Gould to an incredible podium place on their 4WD tarmac debut as the competitors returned to the finish.
"It's been a great weekend to bounce back from the Pirelli and just what we needed to get experience of the car." commented Marshall "The competiton was fierce, and I'm delighted to get our first BRC podium on this event. It's a year since my first rally with Adam where we won the Star Driver nomination to put us in this position so it's quite fitting really."
Having now completed his university studies, Marshall is set to concentrate on the next round of the championship, the Rally Isle of Man in July.
