Marshall Scoops Pirelli Star Driver Award

14/12/2008

Seb Marshall last week guided Adam Gould to victory in the Pirelli Star Driver UK Shootout, landing them a fully funded drive in next year's British Rally Championship.

Having narrowly missed out on the top prize at the Pirelli European Shootout in Austria in October where they represented the UK, the young pairing were keen to make amends and secure the prize worth in excess of £150,000.

The two-day assessment took place at Dovenby Hall in Cumbria, the home of the Ford World Rally Team, where 8 of the brightest young talents in British rallying were tested on driving ability, media skills, knowledge of the sport and a gruelling fitness test.

The MSA British Rally Elite duo were judged to be the outstanding performers, with Gould topping the fitness test and scoring highly in all other aspects as well as recording the fastest times in both 2WD and 4WD machinery over the 2.5 mile stage.

The judging panel, which included former World & British Champions, came to the unanimous decision to award Gould and Marshall the prestigious prize for next year.

"It's fantastic to have won and be given this amazing opportunity," commented Seb "The competition was extremely tough but we gave it our all and thankfully came out on top. We've got to thank Pirelli for providing this prize in these difficult times for Motorsport."

Having dominated the R2 class championship with 3 wins this year; 20-year-old Marshall and Gould are keen to continue this winning form in next year's British Rally Championship, the opening round of which is the Rally Cymru on March 28th.
