Marshall Storms To Victory On Jim Clark

25/05/2008

Co-Driver Seb Marshall scored an impressive class victory on last weekends Jim Clark International Rally, competing alongside rising young star Adam Gould in the Autosport Technology prepared Renault Clio.

The MSA British Rally Elite/Academy pairing were contesting their first event together on the demanding roads around the Scottish Borders town of Duns. Despite having to go back to Newcastle between the recce and shakedown to sit a university exam, Marshall was eagerly anticipating his first international event, the second round of the British Rally Championship.

The young duo soon settled into a good rhythm, stopping the clocks on the first 16 mile stage some 21.7 seconds faster than their closest rival George Thomas. This commanding performance was set to continue as they pulled out a further minute over the next 8 stages. However, a small spin due to cool tyres on stage 10 was to see that lead cut substantially going into the overnight halt.

With a plan to consolidate their position over the remaining 56 miles of competition, the pair were able to once again extend their class lead to over a minute, securing an incredible 10th overall in the process, being the first two-wheel drive car at the finish. This giant killing result also caught the attention of the Pirelli Star Driver judges; awarding Adam the prestigious accolade to take part in a shootout to win a years funded rallying.

"That was a near perfect weekend, and an incredible performance from Adam who drove brilliantly throughout the rally." commented Seb, "It was his first time in the car on tarmac, first event writing our own pacenotes and first rally with me co-driving so by no means an easy time!"

"Taking a top ten finish on an International rally against far bigger machinery is awesome, but to win the Pirelli Star Driver really capped off a fantastic rally for us."

Seb is next in action in just two weeks time, at the Chatsworth Rally Show.
